In March 2026, FlankSpeed turned on Data Loss Prevention (DLP) to further enhance security and ensure data is protected from being leaked inadvertently. As part of this, ALL files saved in FlankSpeed – whether in SharePoint or OneDrive – were automatically labeled with the sensitivity “Uncontrolled – DoD Community Only”. This means that files sent to non-DoD domains would trigger a DLP violation and the email/file would not be delivered.
In order to work around this, you will need to change the sensitivity level of your document/file to one that is allowed to be sent outside of the DoD. Note, DO NOT mislabel the sensitivity of a document just to be able to send it to someone outside of the DoD.
For Microsoft Office documents, if you are using the “new” M365 versions of Office, click the filename in the upper left of the app window. You should see a shield icon and “Uncontrolled” beside the filename. After clicking, a drop down will allow you to rename the file and also change the sensitivity.
To be able to send outside of the DoD, you can choose either
- "Uncontrolled\General" or
- "Controlled - Collaboration\CUI"
For other types of documents such as PDFs or if you are not using the "new" M365 versions of Office, you will need to find the file online in SharePoint or OneDrive. Once you find it, click the three dots by the filename and then “Details”. A sidebar will pop up on the right from which you can see file properties and change the sensitivity. Note, you will be forced to provide a justification in this scenario.
